Picture it. You step into the elevator and your boss is standing there. He asks your opinion on a big deal your company is putting together – something about weighing short-term payoffs versus potential long-term gains – and you have less than a minute to wow him with your thinking, reasoning, and decision making skills

A few weeks ago, Pamela Paul wrote an article that appeared in the New York Times called, “The Un-divorced.” The article covered the topic of what I call the “quiet trend” of people who divorce emotionally but not legally. I refer to these trends “quiet” because the census bureau can’t track these numbers as easily as they can the filings of marriage certificates and divorce decrees. These trends go untalked about and, until now, largely unnoticed for years

I have a very close relationship with my grandma. She wants me to call her twice a day, but I feel exhausted constantly having to account for what I am doing. I often feel mad – why is a 10-minute call becoming such a problem for me?

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists , about 15-20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, usually within the first 13 weeks of pregnancy. For the woman who has miscarried, this can be a difficult time emotionally, both in coping with the loss and thinking about its impact on her marriage and her ability to conceive in the future

Oprah Winfrey has done it again. Last week’s show with Mo’nique’s brother, or perhaps I should say with her family of origin, has continued to linger in my thoughts. As astutely as any family therapist I know (though none would do this on TV), she made space for Mo’nique’s brother, their parents and younger brother, and asked questions, listened, empathized, confronted, challenged, affirmed, and  tried to teach — and she did all of this respectfully, while also remaining loyal to her  hard-earned knowledge on the subject, to Mo’nique, and to the millions of incest survivors in her TV audience.  I’m one of them

After her mother died of cancer at age 60, Rosman, a reporter for the The Wall Street Journal , explored several unfamiliar corners of her mother’s world.
